As the vibrant desert blossoms begin to fade and the heat of the sun intensifies, we find ourselves looking back at another unforgettable spring in Greater Zion. This past season brought us some of our favorite memories yet—crisp morning air, perfect sandstone traction, and crews of adventurers ready to push their limits.

But while the "Spring Canyon Sessions" have officially wrapped up, the adventure doesn't stop when the thermometer rises. To everyone who joined us for a spring session: Thank you for making it an incredible season.

Transitioning to Summer: How We Beat the Heat

As we transition into the summer months, the desert changes—and so do our strategies. If you think the summer heat means staying indoors, think again. Canyoneering is actually one of the absolute best ways to experience Greater Zion in July and August, provided you know how to play the game.

Here is how we adapt our summer canyon sessions to keep things cool, safe, and thrilling:

1. Hunting for the "Deep Chills"

The beauty of slot canyons is that they create their own microclimates. Deep inside a narrow sandstone slot, temperatures can drop significantly compared to the exposed canyon rims. We tailor our summer routes to favor deep, shaded canyons where the sun rarely reaches the floor.

2. Water-Rich Routes

Summer is prime time for canyons that feature refreshing pools and water obstacles. There is nothing quite like rappelling down a sheer rock face and dropping into a cool, hidden pool of water to reset your internal thermostat.

Summer Packing Pro-Tip: Water, water, and more water! When you head out with us in the summer, hydration and sun protection are top priorities. We recommend lightweight, long-sleeve sun shirts (UPF rated) to keep the sun off your skin without overheating, along with plenty of electrolytes.
