Canyoneering and Rock Climbing Practice Day with Triple S Canyoneering
Every month or two the lovely people over at Triple S Canyoneering put on a loosly organized canyoneering practice and skills day out in Leeds. These are typically amazing days to come out meet new canyoneers, refine your own skills and give back by helping some people who may be new to the activity. Best of all it's free and often attended by some true legends and some of the best canyon mentors in the region. Nearly every time I go I alway pick up some new bit of info on a variation of a technique, a new route, some recent epic, or just get up to speed on the latest local canyon gossip.
I gotta thank Kelly, Melissa, Adolfo, Ed, and Brent for the willingness to volunteer their time to give back to the community.
People were practicing all sorts of different skills, from new comers who have never rappelled or been on a rope before, to others practicing higher level rescue skills like pick offs and conversion between rappelling to ascending back to rappelling.
After practice and learning most went home for chores or to attend to other obligations, but a few of us decided to run a near by canyon called Pigeon Poo. Given the name, as you can guess it's not a destination canyon, but it is close and gave us the oppertunity to leave some fixed lines at the rappels to ascend the canyon. This allowed us to go down the canyon, then ascend back up, saving us from having to do a car shuttle.
